Way Corny: OCC unveils E85 chopper

As the saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." So when the Orange County Chopper crew was asked to come to Iowa and build a custom bike to help out Join the Ride Iowa, the result was understandably corny. The first things you'll notice are the soybean and corn paint job. The edamame paint is unmistakable, but It also has what they refer to as a corn head "scoop" and exhaust pipes that are said to emulate the tubing on an ethanol plant. Built to support the Iowa Farm Bureau Renewable Energy movement and show off Iowa's place as the 4th leading supplier of energy in the nation, this custom bike also incorporates other renewable fuel sources.

The big yellow gas cap clearly shows that the bike is powered by an E85 motor. Apparently that's a first. You'll also find the E85 logo on the air cleaner cover. And if that's not enough, the wheels were designed to resemble the blades of a wind turbine. A nod to Iowa's livestock industry comes via the, surprise, leather seat. Well, it does have embossed animals on it.

A custom chopper built by the Teutels will always draw some attention, especially if Sr., Jr., and Mikey are around to promote it. In this case, the cause seems a bit outside their normal sphere of influence. But if it helps people think green, what the heck. If you happen to like the looks of this bad boy, it will be raffled off to raise money for Join the Ride Iowa. Tickets are $10 and it looks like there's a $50,000 cash option should you have no place in your barn for a corn-fed chopper.

Introducing The Cooler Scoop… Sigh

Cooler Scoop (Image courtesy Taylor Gifts)
Looking at the Cooler Scoop makes you realize that someone, somewhere decided that the ‘problem’ of your arm getting cold while reaching into a cooler full of ice to retrieve a can or bottle was a far more pressing issue than say solving world hunger or eliminating cancer.

But at least the makers of the Cooler Scoop went above and beyond when it comes to the device’s feature set because in addition to the self-draining design the scoop also features a bottle opener at the end of the handle. In fact I’ve heard rumors that version 2.0 could even introduce a handy backscratching feature that many feel was sorely missing from the current model. However there are still no plans to release a version that uses 3G.

So thankfully now that mankind can reach into a cooler full of ice without the slight discomfort of their arm getting cold for 2 seconds the inventor of the scoop can go back to perfecting their free energy machine or whatever other marvelous creations they have in mind.

The Cooler Scoop is available fr

om Taylor Gifts for $14.98. [ Cooler Scoop ]

Belkin Wireless USB Adapters

Belkin Wireless USB

Belkin seems to be about to come out with something quite useful: dual purpose wireless USB adapters. The dongles should support USB 2.0 transfer speeds (hypothetically up to 480 mbps) and play nice with future wireless USB products. Hopefully, you’ll be able to plug one of these into your computer and the other one into a standard USB compliant device and create a wireless USB connection that’s transparent to your computer, thus bypassing a whole tangle of cables and the 5 meter USB cable length limit. There’s no information on the specific wireless method that the adapters employ or what their effective range is. Oh, and the dual purpose bit? Supposedly, you’ll be able to plug two Belkin dongles into the USB ports of two different computers and create an instant wireless network. That sounds so easy, it can’t be possible.

Although these haven’t been officially announced by Belkin yet, according to Everything USB, they’ll have an MSRP of $179.99 and support both Windows XP (SP2) and Vista.

Remote Control Blimp Bomber

Blimp Bomber (Image courtesy Draganfly)

When I was a kid we didn’t have toys with missile-launching, bomb dropping or even catapulting capabilities but somehow we still managed to hurt ourselves on a regular basis. Today’s kids though have it a lot easier since almost every toy on the market has some kind of projectile capability making that ever popular parent’s tag line ‘you’ll poke your eye out!’ all the more plausible. So it’s not surprising to see this RC blimp, which in and of itself is a fairly docile toy equipped with a remote control bombing mechanism.

The blimp has an indoor flying range of 100 feet and uses a couple of small fans on board to give you control over its speed and direction. Once you’ve got it positioned over a sibling’s bowl of cereal or carefully constructed house of cards a button on the remote will release the included bomb at which point you’ll want to make a quick getaway.

The RC Blimp Bomber is available from Draganfly for $69.95. And just a note to OhGizmo! readers living in the mountains, the Draganfly website warns that the blimp will apparently not float in high altitude areas due to the increased decreased air density.
